From Winterberg, GER
(Nov. 26, 2017) German Natalie Geisenberger took her second World Cup gold medal in a row, cruising to victory over the field.
While the women behind her jockeyed for position, Geisenberger held strong at the top of the leader board, setting the fast time in both heats on her way to victory.
Behind her, Americans Emily Sweeney and Summer Britcher came into the second heat tied in the silver medal position, with German Tatjana Hüfner on the outside looking in. Sweeney made a mistake late in her run, and while Britcher’s run was otherwise clean, it lacked the speed that Hüfner found in her second run. The end result saw Hüfner move into silver, and Britcher back to bronze.
The bronze medal was the first medal in the early season for USA Luge, who had otherwise had a relatively tough start to the Olympic season.
Erin Hamlin moved up from fifth to fourth, missing a medal by .15, while German Julia Taubitz finished fifth. Tatyana Ivanova of Russia was the first non-German or American, finishing in sixth.
Kimberley McRae was the top-finishing Canadian, one place ahead of Sweeney in eighth, while Alex Gough finished tenth.
