Cecchini Wins NAC Finale, Florian Wins NAC Title

(Jan. 12, 2018) Joseph Luke Cecchini won gold in the final race of the 2017/2018 North American Cup season, beating out the eventual season champion to do so.

The Italian was seventh quickest off the top of Mt. Van Hoevenberg, but was the fastest at the finish, winning by .16 over Austin Florian and  .28 ahead of Andrew Blaser.

Nick Timmings finished fourth, ahead of AJ Edelman and Nicholas Rettenmyer, who rounded out the top six.

Daniel Barefoot and Chris Strup helped put all four Americans in the top ten with their seventh and tenth place finishes, while Canadians Mark Lynch and Kyle Donsberger finished 11th and 16th.

The American silver and bronze medalists also finished atop the North American Cup points, with Florian beating Blaser for the top prize. Florian scored one gold and five silver medals in eight races, never finishing out of the top six. Blaser won six medals in eight events as well, winning one silver and five bronzes over his 2017/2018 season.

Katsuyuki Miyajima finished third in the overall points despite missing the final two events of the year.
