FIL Artificial Track Sprint Results – Lillehammer

(Jan. 21, 2018) Below are the results from the three Sprint World Cup events held in Lillehammer.

Men’s Luge

Semen Pavlichenko won the season opener full-course race in Igls, but has otherwise been kept off the top spot of the podium since. He changed that in the men’s sprint event, edging Austrian Wolfgang Kindl by .077.

Full-course winner Dominik Fischnaller finished the sprint event with a bronze medal, a tenth ahead of Roman Repilov in fourth. Jozef Ninis and Kevin Fischnaller rounded out the top six.

Taylor Morris was the top-finishing American in 7th, while Tucker West finished 15th.

Women’s Luge

Summer Britcher swept the women’s events, winning gold both in the full-course event and the women’s sprint. Britcher carried the second fastest speed at the start on her way to her second gold of the season and sixth career international podium.

Viktoriia Demchenko was the fastest at the start line, and missed a gold medal by just .002, while German Natalie Geisenberger finished third.

German Julia Taubitz, Latvian Kendija Aparjode, and American Erin Hamlin rounded out the top six.

Emily Sweeney rounded out the American effort in 12th, while Canadian Alex Gough finished ninth.

Doubles Luge

Germany lost their first doubles luge event in over two years in the Sprint World Cup event in over two years, dating back to December 12, 2015 (Christian Oberstolz & Patrick Gruber in the Park City Sprint).

The team of Eggert & Benecken hit early going into Turn 14, causing them to skid and eventually crash, handing the win to the Austrian duo of Peter Penz & Georg Fischler, who edged Germans Tobias Wendl & Tobias Arlt by .060.

The American duo of Matt Mortensen & Jayson Terdiman scored their first podium of the season with a bronze medal run.

Aleksandr Denisev & Vladislav Antonov finished fourth, ahead of Andris & Juris Sics, and Ivan Nagler & Fabian Malleier, who rounded out the top six.

Americans Justin Krewson & Andrew Sherk finished seventh, while Canadians Tristan Walker & Justin Snith finished ninth.
