From Moscow, RUS
(Jan. 20, 2019) – A day after Alex Gruber lost a gold medal in the second heat, he came back to win gold in Moscow.
The Italian was once again the quickest in the first heat, and once again he couldn’t match that speed in the second run. This time, though, he had enough time in the bank to hold off the field and win his second gold medal of the season.
Patrick Pigneter had the fastest run in the second heat on his way to a silver medal, .12 ahead of the previous day’s winner, Thomas Kammerlander, who finished in third.
Michael Scheikl, Florian Glatzl, and Aleksandr Egorov finished fourth through sixth.
Gruber now leads Kammerlander by only 25 points. Kammerlander’s bronze medal was the first of the season for either slider, with Gruber and Kammerlander both winning either gold or silver in the first three events of the season.
Due to technical issues, it was decided that the pursuit races scheduled for the second day of racing in Moscow would be changed to traditional two-heat race events.
