FIBT World Cup – Round 3 – 4-Man Bobsled

From Winterberg, Germany

Until the final run from Winterberg, the big story had been the weather.  The final run was clean with the weather, but the big story was the crashes.  Through five official runs in 2 1/2 races, there hadn’t been a single sled roll.  The first run of the heat saw the British sled crash on the next to last corner.  A few heats later, the Baumann and the Swiss sled rolled coming off the final turn.  Finally, the Canadian-1 sled rolled mid-race, coming back on the runners just before the labyrinth.  Rush and CAN-1 would find themselves 20th at the end of the day.

Steven Holcomb in USA-1 came up from sixth after the first heat to fourth, just .04 out of a medal.   Melbardis and the LAT-2 sled takes the bronze, with Zubkov finishing their second run .02 out of the lead.  Florschuetz and GER-1 takes the gold, making it a bobsled sweep for Florschuetz.

John Napier finished 15th, with the Spring-piloted CAN-1 sled finishing 10th.
