Appiah Dominates in Monobob Season Opener

From Lake Placid, USA

Nov. 18, 2019 – Cynthia Appiah cruised to victory in the 2019/2020 Women’s Monobob opener in Lake Placid.

The Canadian was the strongest at the top, out-pushing everyone. She backed that speed up by being the quickest at every timing line down the 2021 World Championship track on her way to victory by .58 over Korean Yooran Kim.

Australian pilot Ashleigh Werner finished with a bronze medal in third, taking her second medal in three monobob events. She has never finished outside of the top four in the four events held in North America over the past two seasons.

Melissa Lotholz of Canada finished fourth after a disappointing second run dropped her from second. Teammate Bianca Ribi finished fifth, with Chinese pilot Qing Ying finishing sixth.

Kori Hol finished seventh in a strong showing for Canada, with Shelby Williamson and Vanessa D’Arpino finishing eighth and 12th respectively for the United States.
