From Sochi, RUS
Nov. 23, 2019 – Sandra Kreher held off a trio of Russian women on their home ice to win the Intercontinental Cup opener in Sochi, Russia.
Krerher held a .07 second advantage over Renata Khuzina going into the second heat. On the second run Khuzina set the quick time of the heat. Kreher answered by keeping it close enough, edging the Russian by .04 to win her third career ICC event.
Kreher has never finished outside of the top six in seven ICC starts, and only has finished outside of the top six twice in her career (European Cup stops in Igls during the 2016/2017 season and Winterberg in the 2017/2018 season).
Khuzina finished well ahead of teammates Alena Frolova and Anastasia Trufanova, who finished third and fourth behind her.
Great Britain’s Madelaine Smith finished fifth, just ahead of American Kelly Curtis in sixth. Curtis has finished in the top six in all three of her ICC starts.
Sara Roderick helped put two American sleds in the top ten with a tenth place finish, while Kristen Hurley finished 13th in her first career ICC race.
Ashleigh Pittaway finished just outside of the top six in seventh on the second British sled, while Katie Tannenbaum scored her best ICC finish since November of 2017 with a 12th place finish.
