From Winterberg, GER
Dec. 14, 2019 – Jonas Jannusch scored gold in Winterberg in the third 4-man race of the European season, edging out Rostislav Gaitiukevich in the process.
Jannusch was the quickest in the first heat by .09, with Gaitiukevich just behind him. On the second run Gaitiukevich could only put down the fourth fastest run of the heat, opening the door for Jannusch. The German, while not setting the fastest time of the heat, had enough to keep Gaitiukevich behind him to win his second career 4-man gold medal.
Gaitiukevich won his second straight silver in Winterberg (winning silver in the 2-man competition yesterday), while Hans Peter Hannighoffer finished third on the strength of the race’s fastest run in the second heat.
Dmitriy Popov finished fourth for Russia, while Mihai Tentea scored another top five with a fifth place finish. Lamin Deen of Great Britain jumped up from ninth in the first heat to finish sixth.
Olympic gold medalist Oskars Melbardis finished eighth after trouble at the start in his first run.
