Delka Golden With First Career IBSF Medal

Jan. 6, 2020 – Kellie Delka edged out China’s Yuxi Li to strike gold in Lake Placid in the first of two one-heat races.

The Puerto Rican slider overcame a .18 deficit off the top to edge out Li by .02 at the finish for what is her first career IBSF medal in 52 starts.

Li’s silver was a career-best.

Eunji Kim of Korea finished third, only .1 behind Delka and .08 behind Li.

Canada’s Jaclyn LaBerge finished just out of the medals in fourth, with the US Virgin Islands’ Katie Tannenbaum just behind her in 5th. The United States’ Mystique Ro rounded out the top six.

Lauren McDonald finished 12th on the strength of a second fastest start in the race. Emily Shellberg finished 18th and MIchelle Toukan 19th to round out the American effort.

Canada put two sleds in the top ten, with Natlaie Coughlin finishing a career-best eighth. Janelle Khan finished 17th.
