From Sigulda, LAT

Jan. 19, 2020 – Andreea Grecu won her third straight European Cup women’s bobsled race to clinch her first European Cup title of her career with one race left to go.

The Romanian pilot finished the first heat .12 ahead of Germany’s Anne Lobenstein and .2 ahead of Switzerland’s Melanie Hasler. On the second run Hasler was .04 quicker than Grecu, which was enough to put her a hundredth of a second ahead of Lobenstein, but not enough to take the top spot of the race, with Grecu taking gold, Hasler silver, and Lobenstein bronze.

Grecu’s win was her third straigt, and put her over 120 points ahead of anyone else in the European Cup standings, meaning she could skip the final race of the season and still be the women’s bobsled champion. Lobenstein sits second in the points, with Hasler only 20 points out in third.
