From Laas, ITA
Feb. 8, 2020 – The Russian team of Pavel Porshnev & Ivan Lazarev won their second race of the 2019/2020 season, taking gold in Laas.
The Russian duo had the two quickest times of the race. In the first heat, they edged out World Cup point leaders Patrick Pigneter & Florian Clara by just .04. On the second run the Russians set the fast time of the day, .49 faster in the heat to beat Pigneter & Clara by .54.
The win for Porshnev & Lazarev kept Pigneter & Clara from clinching the World Cup title with one race to go on the season. To that end, however, they’ll need to both win the season finale in Umhausen and have Pigneter & Clara not finish to take the title from the Italians.
Finishing third in Laas were Pigneter & Clara’s Italian teammates Patrick & Matthias Lambacher, 1.49 seconds back of the Russians.
Stanislav Kovshik & Ilia Tarasov finished fourth, over a second out of the medals. Teammates Aleksandr Egorov & Petr Popov finished fifth, while the Polish team of Adam Jedrzejko & Konrad Stano rounded out the top six.
