Lanthaler Wins Gold, Clinches World Cup Title

Feb. 9, 2020 – Evelin Lanthaler clinched her the women’s FIL World Cup on Natural Track title with a win in Laas, marking her third straight World Cup title.

The Italian slider dominated the race in Laas, setting the quick time at every split in both heats and beating out Austrian Tina Unterberger by 1.19 seconds on her way to gold.

The win was the fifth in sixth races for Lanthaler.

Unterberger held off Greta Pinggera for silver, edging the Italian by .14 for the position, closing the gap for second place overall to within 15 points.

The top three women have accounted for all but one medal during the 2019/2020 luge season, with Michelle Diepold accounting for a bronze medal in Passeiertal.

Ekaterina Lavrenteva finished fourth in the penultimate race of the 2019/2020 season, ahead of Diepold in fifth and Nadine Staffler in a season-best sixth.
