FIBT World Cup – Round 6 – Women’s Skeleton – Heat 1

Snow is once again the theme for today’s race, with heavy snow early giving way to a light snowfall throughout the second half of the field.

After the first heat, British athletes Lizzy Yarnold and Shelley Rudman lead the field.  Rudman’s run came in a heavy snowfall in between slow runs of many of her fellow sliders.  After coming out second, Rudman’s time would stand until  Yarnold put down the only sub-1:12 time on the track.  Her 1:11.93 was enough to put her first after the first run.

After the two British sliders it’s three Germans, with Heinz, Thees and Huber stacked up from third to fifth.  New Zealand’s Katharine Eustace sits fifth, tied with Anja Huber.

Kimber Gabryszak leads the American contingent in 7th, with Katie Uhlaender 13th and Anne O’Shea 18th.  Amy Gough leads all Canadians in 8th, while Hollingsworth and Reid are 16th and 17th.
