From Winterberg, GER

(Dec. 5, 2020) – Nadezhda Sergeeva won gold in the season opener of the IBSF Women’s Monobob World Series, edging out Switzerland’s Martina Fonatnive for the honors.

Sergeeva led Fontanive by just .02 going into the second heat. On that second run Fonatnive put down another quick run, the fastest of the race thus far. Sergeeva was able to do just a little better, finishing .06 faster in the heat for a combined .08 second victory, with Fontanive in second.

The gold and silver for Sergeeva and Fonatnive come in their first ever IBSF Monobob starts. Prior to the beginning of the “Women’s Monobob World Series”, the IBSF had a “Women’s Monobob Event” tour of various monobob races across Europe and North America.

Kati Beierl finished third for her second IBSF medal of the season, having won a bronze medal in IBSF World Cup women’s bobsled competition in Latvia earlier in the season.

Andreea Grecu had the two quickest starts of the race on her way to a fourth place finish, moving up from sixth in the first heat. Melanie Hasler and Anastasiia Makarova finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Youth Olympic Games silver medalist Viktoria Cernanska finished seventh for Slovakia, while Liechtenstein’s Simone Pfeiffer finished eighth in her first career senior-level IBSF race.
