(Dec. 6, 2020) – Hans Peter Hannighofer won his second straight race of the European Cup season, cruising to a .36 second victory over another sizable field.
The German pilot carried a .21 lead over Latvia’s Davis Kaufmanis into the second heat. On the second run the other contenders faltered while Hannighofer put down another consistent run to win gold.
Russia’s Rostislav Gaitiukevich finsihed second, jumping up from fourth in the first heat and edging out Kaufmanis for the position. Kaufmanis held on for third to win his first career European Cup medal.
Germany’s Maximilian Illmann finished fourth, just .02 behind Kaufmanis, while teammate Jonas Jannusch finished fifth.
Oskars Melbardis started 32nd of 33 sleds in the field in the first heat and finished his first run in 15th place on rough ice. On the second run he had the quickest run of the heat to move up from 15th to sixth.
Great Britain was once again led by Lamin Deen, who tied for 11th with Switzerland’s Cedric Follador. James Brown finished 23rd, while Adam Baird and John Stanbridge finished 29th and 30th to round out he British effort.
Liechtenstein’s Martin Kranz finished 22nd in his second career IBSF European Cup race.
