Schneider Cruises to Altenberg Victory

From Altenberg, GER

(Jan. 8, 2021) – Stephanie Schneider completely dominated the IBSF European Cup women’s bobsled race in Altenberg, opening up a half-second lead after one heat and finishing the race over a second ahead of anyone else.

Schneider, with brakewoman Claudia Schüßler, was the fastest at every split save for the very first one of the morning on her way to a 1.19 second victory over teammate Lisa Buckwitz.

Buckwitz, the gold medal brakewoman of the 2018 Olympic Games, out-pushed her teammate in the first run, but otherwise was relegated to second place in the race with the second fastest slide in each heat.

The Canadian women made their European debut on the season, and took up the next four spots. Olympian Alysia Rissling finished with a bronze medal in third. Cynthia Appiah finished fourth in both heats for a fourth place effort, while Melissa Lotholz broke a tie for fifth with teammate Bianca Ribi to take fifth in the second heat. Ribi finished sixth.
