From Whistler, CAN
(November 8, 2021) – Alexander Schlintner stayed perfect on his season, once again setting the quick time in both heats on his way to gold.
The Austrian had the two fastest runs of the race. In the first heat, he finished .05 ahead of Ireland’s Brendan Doyle. On the second run Doyle had trouble early in his run, giving Schlintner an easy run to gold on his second run.
Canada’s David Park won his first ever IBSF medal, a silver. He finished .6 behind Schlintner and .09 ahead of two-time North American Cup champion Ander Mirambell.
Great Britain’s Ben Fulker once again finished fourth, one spot ahead of Italy’s Manuel Schwärzer. Lucas Defayet finished sixth.
Andrew Blaser couldn’t equal the previous day’s success. He finished eighth, two spots ahead of teammate Stephen Garbett in tenth. Daniel Barefoot and Hunter Williams finished 13th and 19th, respectively, for the United States.
For Canada, Park’s silver medal was the lone bright spot of the men’s skeleton race. Ryan Kuehn finished 15th, while Troy Wilson and Jimmie Airey finished 17th and 18th.
Brendan Doyle, who came into the second heat in second place settled for 12th, one spot behind Rin Kinoshita of Japan. Kinoshita struggled in his first heat, but had the second quickest run of the second heat to finish 11th.
