Silveira Wins 1st ICC Gold

From Whistler, CAN

(November 14, 2021) – Nicole Silveira’s amazing start to the 2021/2022 season continued on Sunday with her first gold medal in Intercontinental Cup action.

Silveira trailed Germany’s Sophia Greibel by just .01. On the second run Greibel was quick, but not quick enough to hold back either Silveira or Canadian Madison Charney.

Charney jumped up from sixth into the silver medal position with only Silveira to go. Silveira’s second run time was the fastest of the heat and enough to give her a first ICC gold medal. It was her fourth gold medal in five races, having swept the North American Cup skeleton races earlier in the week.

Charney’s silver medal was her best finish in ICC competition since Calgary during the 2017/2018 season.

Greibel held on for third, ahead of Canadian standout rookie Hallie Clarke in fourth. The United States’ Kendall Wesenberg and Savannah Graybill finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Sara Roderick finished 12th to round out the American effort.

Amelia Coltman finished 10th for Great Britain, while Leslie Stratton finished 13th as the lone Swede in the field.

Katie Tannenbaum finished 16th for the US Virgin Islands.
