Seibel Wins Altenberg ICC Finale, Rukosuev Wins Title

From Altenberg, GER

(January 6, 2022) – Germany’s Felix Seibel edged out Russia’s Evgeniy Rukosuev to win the Intercontinental Cup season finale race in Altenberg in what was a relatively close race.

Seibel and Rukosuev were tied after one run, with matching 56.45 downtimes. On the second run Seibel went first between the two, and put down what would be the quick run of the race. Rukosuev out-started Siebel by .19 off the top, but a small mistake toward the end of his run dropped him back .16 to finish with a silver medal.

The gold for Seibel was his first of the season, while Rukosuev’s silver gave him a medal in every race on the ICC calendar.

Felix Keisinger finished third. He entered the second heat only .04 out of the lead, but couldn’t quite match the pace of the two men before him. His bronze medal was his fourth medal of the season and his sixth straight top four finish.

China’s Wenhao Chen once again just missed out on a medal in fourth place, while Great Britain’s Marcus Wyatt finished fifth. Germany’s Lukas Nydegger rounded out the top six.

Great Britain once again had a strong showing in Altenberg, placing both men in the top seven. Matt Weston couldn’t quite match the previous day’s medal-winning effort but did finish seventh.

Canada had a solid showing in Altenberg in the ICC season finale. Kyle Murray finished 11th, only .06 out of a top ten. Teammate Mark Lynch finished 14th.

Hunter Williams  bettered his previous day’s effort and was the only American in the top 20. He finished 17th, while teammates Stephen Garbett and Daniel Barefoot finished 22nd and 23rd, respectively.

In the ICC points race, Evgeniy Rukosuev won the season-long title, well ahead of anyone else. Felix Seibel’s gold in the season finale gave him second overall, while Felix Keisinger edged out Lukas Nydegger for third by one point.
