Kreher Cruises to Altenberg ICC Victory, Secures Title

From Altenberg, GER

(January 6, 2022) – For the second day in a row, Germany’s Susanne Kreher was dominant in Altenberg and slid to gold, finishing well ahead of anyone else in the field.

As she did on Wednesday, Kreher once again had the two fastest runs of the race on her way to a huge victory, this time .77 seconds over teammate Sophia Griebel. Her gold medal was her third straight and fifth in her last six races.

For Griebel, her silver medal was her second straight. She was the only slider within a second of Kreher’s combined downtime.

China’s Huiyang Lin finished third for her first ever Intercontinental Cup bronze medal. Prior to her two top five finishes in Altenberg, Lin had only finished in the top six in any IBSF competition once (Jan. 24, 2019 in Lake Placid).

Canada’s Hallie Clarke finished out a strong ICC season with a fourth place finish, well ahead of Russia’s Alena Frolova in fifth. Agathe Bessard finished with her second straight top six finish in sixth.

Canada’s Madi Charney missed out on a top six by .02 and finished seventh, one spot ahead of the United States’ Savannah Graybill in eighth. American Mystique Ro finished 12th to round out the North American effort.

The US Virgin Islands’ Katie Tannenbaum wrapped up her ICC season with a 16h place finish, one spot ahead of Lichtenstein’s Katharina Eigenmann in 17th. Columbia’s Laura Vargas finished 19th and Shannon Galea of Malta finished 20th.

Susanne Kreher just had to show up and finish to clinch the overall Intercontinental Cup point race. Her win gave her the overall title by 100 points over Canada’s Hallie Clarke. Sophia Griebel finished the season in third, just ahead of Savannah Graybill and Madi Charney, who rounded out the top five.
