Sigulda Sprint World Cup Results

(January 9, 2022) – Below are the results from the FIL Sprint World Cup race held in Sigulda.

Men’s Luge

Felix Loch edged out Kristers Aparjods on his home ice in Sigulda to win gold by .014.

Loch was behind Aparjods early, but had an nearly perfect Kreisel at the end to slide just ahead of Aparjods to win his first Sprint race of the year. Aparjods’s silver was also his first.

Dominik Fischnaller finished .071 back behind Loch to win bronze.

Nico Gleirscher, Semen Pavlichenko, and Gints Berzins rounded out the top six.

Doubles Luge

Andris & Juris Sics held serve on their home ice to win gold in the doubles sprint race. The Latvians took the lead from the team of Tobias Wendl & Tobias Arlt by .069 with only Toni Eggert & Sascha Benecken to come.

The German duo of Eggert & Benecken had an early lead over the Latvians, but couldn’t quite keep ahead of them and fell to second as they crossed the line.

The win for Sics & Sics was their second in three Sprint World Cup races this season. In the other race they finished with a silver medal.

Eggert & Benecken finished second, with Wendl & Arlt in third.

Italy’s Emanuel Rieder & Simon Kainzwaldner finished in fourth, with Latvia’s Martins Bots & Roberts Plume in fifth. Russia’s Andrei Bogdanov & Iuri Prokhorov in sixth.

The United States’ Dana Kellogg & Duncan Segger finished eighth in their first Sprint World Cup race, two spots ahead of Canada’s Tristan Walker & Justin Snith.

Women’s Luge

Tatyana Ivanova backed up a bronze medal in her return to action from injury with a gold medal in the Sprint World Cup event.

Ivanova edged Germany’s Natalie Geisenberger by .014 to win gold in her first Sprint World Cup race of the season. Both women finished just ahead of Austria’s Madeleine Egle, who won the gold medal earlier in the day in the women’s luge race.

Russia’s Viktoriia Demchenko finished fourth, just ahead of Germany’s Julia Taubitz in fifth. Lisa Schulte of Austria rounded out the top six.

Emily Sweeney was the lone American in the field, however she crashed late in her run and did not finish.
