Schneider Wins EC 2-Woman Finale

From Winterberg, GER

(January 15, 2022) – Stephanie Schneider won the European Cup two-woman season finale, beating out teammate Maureen Zimmer for top honors.

Schneider and brakewoman Tamara Seer opened up a .15 second lead over Zimmer and Anabel Galander after one heat. On the second run Zimmer slid into the lead with only Schneider to go. Schneider’s second run was only third quickest, but was just enough to hold off Zimmer and take her sixth gold of the 2021/2022 season.

Zimmer finished second, while Belgium’s An Vannieuwenhuyse and Sara Aerts finished third after setting the quick downtime of the second heat.

Georgeta Popescu finished fourth, ahead of Lidiia Hunko and the United States’ Nicole Vogt, who finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

The United States’ Riley Compton and Great Britain’s Nikki McSweeney rounded out the eight sled field.

Schneider won the season-long two-woman title handily, by well over 200 points over Ukraine’s Lidiia Hunko. Georgeta Popescu finished the season in third.
