Italy Wins Deutschnofen Team Competition

(January 30, 2022) – Evelin Lanthaler and Alex Gruber, winners of the women’s and men’s luge races in Deutschnofen, backed up their gold medals with a win in the team competition.

Lanthaler and Gruber both set the quick times of their respective legs of the race to win by well over a full second, beating out Austria’s Tina Unterberger and Michael Scheikl.

Russia’s Ekaterina Lavrenteva and Grigory Bukin finished the race in third, well ahead of Lisa Walch and Oliver Schiller of Germany in fourth.

Walch had the second quickest run of the women’s side, but Scheikl rallied with a strong second run for Austria to take silver.

Ukraine and Poland rounded out the field.
