Tregubov, Semenov to Miss Beijing Olympics Due to COVID

From Beijing, CHN

(January 31, 2021) – Russians Niktia Tregubov and Vladislav Semenov will miss the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing due to positive COVID tests.

In an Instagram post (see below) on January 31, Tregubov stated “I’m forced to miss the 2022 Olympics. Unfortunately, the PCR test never came back negative.” He added, “Yesterday it became known that there were no chances left to make it.”

Tim Reynolds and the Associated Press also reported that Vladislav Semenov will also miss the Olympics due positive COVID tests.

Russia has opted to replace the two sliders with the next two Russian sliders in the IBSF rankings: Evgeniy Rukosuev and Daniil Romanov. Rukosuev had an outstanding 2021/2022 season, winning both the Junior World Championships and the overall Intercontinental Cup title. In the ICC season he won four gold medals and was on the podium in every event. Romanov competed in six ICC races and two North American Cup races, with a pair of NAC silvers in Park City as his best finishes.

The men’s skeleton program begins on February 9 at 8:30 PM Eastern Time. For a full schedule of events, click here.
