CAS Dismisses Three Sliding Sport Cases

From Beijing, CHN

(February 1, 2022) – The Court of Arbitration for Sport announced decisions on all three cases it had heard regarding IBSF quota places.

In the case of Megan Henry vs. IBSF, where Henry was looking to have the final competitive slot awarded to her using the qualification system implemented in March of 2020 (superseded by the September 2021 and January 2022 systems), the panel dismissed the application given that the USOPC had two athletes already allocated. This case had been brought first to the IBSF Appeals Tribunal which had upheld the spot going to Katie Tannenbaum of the US Virgin Islands.

AJ Edelman and the Bobsleigh & Skeleton Israel team had petitioned CAS to grant two unused athlete quota spots to BSI for use in the two-man competition and for Edelman to be able to use those spots. That case was dismissed, with CAS expected to release rationale shortly.

The Irish Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association also looked to have unused athlete quota spots allocated to four athletes ranked behind Ander Mirambell (who had the final allocated spot), and that case was also dismissed.

With these cases over, the sliding sport quotas are set.
