Appiah Wins First Gold of Season in Whistler

From Whistler, CAN

(November 10, 2022) – Canada’s Cynthia Appiah cruised to victory in the second North American Cup race of the 2022/2023 season, beating out a teammate for top honors in women’s monobob.

Like she had in the first race, Appiah had the quick start time in both heats, this time with the two best times of the race, and led at every split on her way to a .4 second victory over Bianca Ribi.

The win gave Appiah her third monobob gold medal and 12th podium in the discipline. For Ribi, the silver tied a career best in the event.

Switzerland’s Melanie Hasler finished with a bronze medal, .59 behind Ribi and .99 behind Appiah.

Canada’s Mackenzie Stewart finished the race in fourth, ahead of a trio of sliders from the United States. Nicole Vogt finished fifth, with teammates Riley Compton and Lauren Brzozowski in sixth and seventh, respectively.

Race one winner, Olympic gold medalist Kaillie Humphries, did not start the race.
