Hannighofer Leads German EC Sweep in Altenberg

(January 8, 2024) – The seemingly never-ending Altenberg Europe Cup bobsled stop continued on Monday with the four-man bobsled event. Germany swept the podium with Team Hannighofer leading the way.

Hans Peter Hannighofer’s squad gave him the quickest push in the first heat, and bettered it in the second. He rewarded them with the best drive in the competition on their way to a .3 second victory over the team led by Max Illmann.

Hannighofer’s gold was the third of his career in four-man bobsled, and third straight on the Europe Cup.

Illmann and his team had the second quickest run in both heats on their way to silver, while Alex Czudaj piloted his team to a bronze medal with the third quickest run in both heats.

Romania’s Mihai Tentea moved up from fifth in the first heat to finish fourth, .15 out of the medals, while Swiss pilot Timo Rohner finished fifth.

Germanys Laurin Zern rounded out the top six.
