(January 11, 2026) – South Korea’s Youngjin Suk edged out USA’s Grady Mercer in a tight race to win Suk’s first gold of the 2025/2026 season.
Suk trailed Mercer by .06 after the first heat, with Canada’s Jay Dearborn back in third, a quarter of a second outside of the lead.
Dearborn slid to the lead in the second heat with the quickest start of the competition and a good slide to hold off Brazil’s Edson Bindilatti, but then lost the lead to Suk, who put down a heat-quickest run in the second heat.
Mercer was the final pilot off the top. His team gave him a start .05 quicker than Suk, but his drive was just a little messier than Suk’s, and while it was enough for a medal it was second quickest in the heat and good enough for silver behind Suk by .03.
Dearborn was third, .32 out of the lead.
Bindilatti was fourth, AJ Edelman fifth, and Gustavo Dos Santos Ferreira sixth.
With one race to go in the 2025/2026 North American Cup season, Jay Dearborn holds a slight lead over Grady Mercer. Jamaica’s Shane Pitter, who had won the previous three races, missed the race on Sunday and sits third, with Youngjin Suk and AJ Edelman in fourth and fifth.
