2014/2015 FIBT World Cup – Two-Man Bobsled – Race 1

From Lake Placid, USA

Francesco Friedrich kicked off his 2014/2015 campaign in Lake Placid with a gold medal for Germany, already bettering what was an awful start to last season. Friedrich tied for the fastest run in Run 1 with American Nick Cunningham, but Cunningham just didn’t have luck on his side.  In Run 2, making time up on the lower portion of the track, Cunningham ran over a hat, which likely cost him at least a silver medal, if not a chance at gold.  Oskars Melbardis benefited, taking silver for Latvia.

It was a solid say for the Swiss, as Beat Hefti and Rico Peter took fourth and fifth, while American Steven Holcomb continues to rehab a torn Achilles tear, finishing sixth.  Codie Bascue finished 13th in his first World Cup race in Lake Placid.

The Canadians struggled south of the border, with Justin Kripps leading the way in seventh, while teammate Chris Spring finished 14th.  Lamin Deen took 16th for Great Britain.
