Felix Loch Wins in Altenberg

From Altenberg, GER

(Dec. 2, 2017) It took a couple of races, but a German finally found the top of the World Cup podium in men’s luge.

Felix Loch cruised to victory in Altenberg, holding off a charge by Russian Romain Repilov to do so. The German was over a tenth of a second faster than Repilov going into the second heat. Despite a heat-fastest run by Repilov, Loch had plenty of time banked to take his first World Cup gold of the season.

Repilov finished with a silver medal, ahead of Andi Langenhan who finished with a bronze after coming into the second run in fifth.

Ralf Palik moved up from fifth to fourth on his second run, while Wolfgang Kindl went from eighth to fifth. Reinhard Egger finished sixth.

It was another tough weekend for the American men , with Chris Mazdzer leading the way in 19th position. Teammate Tucker West finished 27th after having major trouble on the bottom half of his first run. Taylor Morris came into the second heat in 14th place, but a disastrous second run left him 31st.

Mitchel Malyk finished 23rd as the lone Canadian in the field.
