Italy Cruises to World Championship Victory

(Feb. 3, 2019) – Italy cruised to victory in the team competition, setting the fast time in each leg to a 2.78 second victory over Austria.

World Champion Evelin Lanthaler opened up a two second lead on Tina Unterberger on Italy’s first leg. Both doubles champion Patrick Pigneter and men’s singles champion Alex Gruber out-slid Michael Scheikl and Thomas Kammerlander to sweep gold over the weekend for Italy.

Austria finished a half second ahead of Russia in third. Germany, Ukraine, and Poland rounded out the top six.

Kelly Gwilliam ran into trouble on the first leg of Great Britain’s run, with Great Britain finishing 14th.
