2019/2020 North American Cup Final Points

Jan. 8, 2020 – The North American Cup finished up it’s relatively quick season with three races in Lake Placid, ending with 4-man on January 8, 2020. Below are the results of each discipline.

Men’s Skeleton

Ander Mirambell won his second North American Cup men’s skeleton title of his career. Though the Spanish slider only medaled once (Race 6 in Lake Placid), he never finished out of the top six, finishing fifth five times to start the season.

American Chris Strup finished second, 24 points behind Mirambell. Strump started his season slow, but finished strong with two silver medals in Lake Placid to finish one point ahead of American Samoa’s Nathan Crumpton.

Crumpton won three gold medals in the five races he entered on his way to third overall.

China’s Zheng Yin finished the year in fourth, with Rin Kinoshita fifth as the top junior on tour. Dean Timmings finished the season sixth in points.

Women’s Skeleton

Korea’s Eunji Kim won her first North American Cup title, beating Brazil’s Nicole Silveira by 72 points to take top honors.

Kim finished the season with five straight medals (two silver, three bronze), her best five finishes of her career..

Silveira’s three top six finishes in Park City led to her second place overall finish, while the United States’ Mystique Ro won two gold medals in five races on her way third.

Americans Lauren McDonald and Michelle Toukan finished fourth and fifth overall, while the US Virgin Islands’ Katie Tannenbaum finished sixth overall despite missing the first two races of the season.

Jeonghyeok Lee was the top finishing junior in seventh.

2-man Bobsled

Canadian Taylor Austin was the class of the North American Cup men’s bobsled field over the course of the 2019/2020 season. In 2-man, he won five straight races (three in Park City and two in Lake Placid) on his way to an over 200 point victory over teammate Patrick Norton.

Norton’s season started slow, but six straight top six finishes was enough to catapult him to second overall, just 28 points ahead of the United States’ Nick Cunningham.

Cunningham, making his first starts since the 2018 Olympic Games, won one gold and four medals overall in six races.

Cunningham held the tiebreaker between himself and top junior Jeff McKeen, who finished fourth overall. Great Britain’s James Brown finished fifth on the season, while Geoff Gadbois finished sixth despite only starting five races.

4-man Bobsled

Much like in 2-man bobsled, Taylor Austin dominated the bulk of the 2019/2020 North American Cup season. The Canadian swept both the Park City stop and the second Lake Placid stop on his way to a 200 point advantage over teammate Jeff McKeen.

McKeen, the tour’s top junior in 4-man, scored four bronze medals in his last six races.

Nick Cunningham finished third overall, finishing with a silver medal in all six 4-man races he entered.

Patrick Norton finished fourth overall, with Geoff Gadbois fifth and Bryan Berghorn sixth.

Austin also finished as the combined 2-man and 4-man champion, ahead of McKeen and Cunningham.

Women’s Bobsled

Canadian Kori Hol edged out American Kristi Koplin for top honors in North American Cup women bobsled. Koplin held the top spot for the majority of the season, but a bad race in the season finale for Koplin catapulted Hol to the season championship.

Koplin finished second overall, ahead of teammate Shelby Williamson, who finished third.

Melissa Lotholz finished fourth on the season, ahead of teammates Bianca Ribi and Cynthia Appiah, who finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Ribi was the top junior on tour.
