From Igls, AUT
Jan. 10, 2020 – Alina Tararychenkova won her first IBSF European Cup gold medal of the season (and third all time) in Igls, coming from behind for the victory.
The Russian was just .01 out of the top spot after the first heat, trailing only Alessia Crippa of Italy. Her second run was the best of the competition and enough to snatch gold from the Italian.
The gold was the first at any level for Tararychenkova in almost two years, with her last also in Igls, while the silver for Crippa was a career best.
Finishing third was Valentina Margaglio, whose bronze medal was also a career best at any level.
German Sarah Wimmer finished fourth, ahead of Great Britain’s Amelia Coltman and Latvia’s Endija Terauda.
Hannah Stevenson helped put two British sleds in the top ten with her eighth place run, while teammate Rachel Hanagan finished 13th.
Sweden’s Leslie Stratton scored her first top ten in European competition, finishing tenth, while Kristen Hurley, the lone American in the field, finished 18th in her first trip to Austria.
