Jan. 10, 2020 – Italian Amedeo Bagnis won his second straight IBSF European Cup gold medal on Friday, coming from behind for the victory.
Bagnis came into the second heat in third, but the Italian slider had both the quickest start of the second heat and the quickest one-run downtime of the race to cruise to a .39 second victory over Germany’s Felix Seibel, who came into the second heat in fourth.
Hiro Takahashi finished with a bronze medal, his best finish in any IBSF tour event since January 22, 2009 (European Cup, St. Moritz).
Italian Mattia Gaspari finished fourth, his best finish since 2013. Russian Vladislav Semenov finished fifth despite leading after the first heat, and Austrian Alexander Schlintner finished sixth.
Matt Weston led the way for Great Britain with an 11th place finish. Teammates Ben Fulker and Laurence Bostock finished 15th and 16th respectively.
Austin McCrary, the lone American in the field, finished 23rd in the 39-man field.
