Jan. 11, 2020 – In the closest race of the Natural Track World Cup weekend, Alex Gruber edged Thomas Kammerlander for gold.
Gruber and Kammerlander finished the first heat tied for the lead, .22 ahead of Austria’s Michael Scheikl. Kammerlander’s second run was strong at the top, Gruber found speed at the bottom, enough to win by .27 over Kammerlander.
Kammerlander finished second, while Patrick Pigneter moved up from fourth to third for his second medal in as many races.
Scheikl fell from third to fourth in the second run, almost a full second ahead of Russia’s Grigory Bukin, while Florian Glatzl rounded out the top six.
