Austria Wins First Team Relay Gold

Jan. 19, 2020 – Austria won their first gold medal in the FIL Team Relay in Lillehammer.

Madeleine Egle, David Gleirscher, and the team of Thomas Steu & Lorenz Koller led at every hit of the paddle on their way to a tenth of a second win over Italy.

Latvia finished third, ahead of Germany, Russia, and Slovakia, who rounded out the top six.

Germany was held out of the medals in three of the four events in Lillehammer, with Julia Taubitz’s bronze medal the only hardware won over the weekend.

The United States and Canada were not entered in the team event.

With their silver medal, Italy left Lillehammer ten points ahead of Austria. Germany sits third overall.
