From Passeier, ITA
Jan. 16, 2021 – Italy’s Evelin Lanthaler stayed perfect on the season with another gold medal effort in Passeier.
Lanthaler had the two fastest times of the race on her way to a 1.26 second victory over teammate Greta Pinggera. Lanthaler was the quickest off the top and at every split down the Italian track.
Pinggera won her fourth straight silver medal, well ahead of anyone else in the field. Russia’s Katerina Lavrenteva finished third in her second race of the season.
Race 3 bronze medalist Daniela Mittermair finished just out of the medals in fourth, just .07 ahead of Austria’s Tina Unterberger in fifth. Michelle Diepold rounded out the top six in sixth.
With two races to go on the season Italy holds the top three spots in the women’s luge standings. Lanthaler holds a 60 point advantage over Pinggera and 140 point advantage over Mittermair. Austria’s Michelle Diepold and Tina Unterberger are the only other two women with a mathematical shot at winning the World Cup season.
