America’s Cup – Round 7 – Men’s Skeleton

From Lake Placid, USA

In last month’s FIBT World Championships, the only event where the United States didn’t medal was Men’s Skeleton.  In today’s America’s Cup event, though, the American men made sure they would be ending the weekend with at least a couple of medals.

Kyle Tress, who just missed out on a World Championship bid in February, dominated today’s racing.  His times of 55.87 and 55.72 were the fastest in both heats, while his combined time of 1:51.59 was over a second and a half faster than teammate Greg West, who took silver.  Tress was fastest by the third split in both races.

Spanish slider Ander Mirambell had tough luck in the World Championships last month, but rebounds nicely to take bronze, just .06 back of West and only .01 ahead of fourth place Canadian Travis Brockway.  Ian Mills finishes fifth.

In all it was a solid day for the Americans, with a gold, silver, 6th (Alex Ivanov) and 8th (Allen Blackwell), while Canada finishes just outside the medals in 4th, 5th, 10th (Sean Greenwood) and 11th (Barrett Martineau).
