Uhlaender Cruises to NAC Gold

From Lake Placid, USA

(November 18, 2023) – A day after having her North American Cup win streak broken, American Katie Uhlaender started anew with a win in Lake Placid.

Uhlaender, the 2012 world champion, opened up a .31 second lead over Kellie Delka after one run, with the rest of the field well back from third on back.

On the final run of the day Delka, the previous day’s winner, easily took the lead by 2.55 seconds over South Korea’s Seoku Yang with just Uhlaender to go.

Uhlaender once again had a great run, ending up with the two quickest downtimes of the competition on her way to a .61 second victory over Delka, with Delka in second and Yang in third.

The win for Uhlaender was her seventh in eight races on the North American Cup, and 26th gold medal in her career across all tours and events.

Delka’s silver was her fourth medal in NAC competition.

Yang finished third for the second day to give her two bronze medals. Yang was the top athlete in the field with no World Cup experience in both races.

USA’s Logan Wudi scored a career-best fourth place finish, a full second ahead of Sujung Hong of South Korea. American Sha’londa Terry rounded out the top six.

Shannon Galea finished seventh, nearly a quarter second out of the top six. Finland’s Hannah Russwurm and Canada’s Mackenzie Adams rounded out the nine sled field.

The North American Cup makes its way to Whistler in early December.
