Sigulda Sprint Competition Results

Below are the results from Sunday’s Sprint World Cup races in Sigulda.

Women’s Luge

Julia Taubitz swept the women’s luge weekend, winning the Sprint World Cup one day after winning the World Cup luge event.

Taubitz tied for the quickest start speed and quickly moved into the lead, eventually finishing with a nice .069 victory over Viktoriia Demchenko, with Tatyana Ivanova in third.

American Emily Sweeney finished 14th as the lone American in the field. Summer Britcher finished 18th in the World Cup race and did not get to start in the Sprint event.

With her win, Taubitz left Sigulda as the World Cup leader, 13 points ahead of Ivanova. Demchnko is well back in third.

Doubles Luge

Kristens Putins & Imants Marcinkevics were surprise winners in the doubles Sprint World Cup race, ahead of Emanuel  Rieder & Simon Kainzwaldner and Andris & Juris Sics, who tied for silver.

Putins & Marcinkevics overcame a slower start speed to edge out Rieder & Kainzwaldner by .007. Sics & Sics were the final team down on their home ice and put down a time equal to the Italians, just behind their teammates.

Tobias Wendl & Tobias Arlt just missed the podium in fourth, ahead of Toni Eggert & Sascha Benecken and Wojciech Chmielewski & Jakub Kowalewski.

Eggert & Benecken hold a 60 point lead over Wendl & Arlt, while Sics & Sics moved to third with their dual-medal weekend.

Men’s Luge

Semen Pavlichenko dominated a one-run Sprint World Cup race as much as one person can. He was the fastest at the start and at every split on his way to a nice .069 victory over Dominik Fischnaller.

Olympic gold medalist David Gleischer just missed a silver medal, .005 off of Fischnaller’s pace, while Riks Rozitis, Wolfgang Kindl, and Arturs Darznieks rounded out the top six.

Roman Repilov, the silver medalist from earlier in the morning, left Sigulda despite a 12th place finish in the Sprint World Cup race. Fischnaller made up some ground and now sits second, with Pavlichenko third.
