2014/2015 FIBT World Cup – Women’s Skeleton – Race 4

From Königssee, GER

The Olympic champion, Lizzy Yarnold, is back in form.  After sitting out the race in Calgary, and finishing in silver in Altenberg, the Brit cruised to victory in Königssee.  She had the fastest run in both heats to take her second gold of the season.

Silver went to Anja Huber Selbach, with her best finish of the season.  Two very quick runs put her just ahead of Russian Maria Orlova.  Sophia Griebel took fourth after putting down a spectacular second run, while Janine Flock rounded out the top five.  Tina Hermann took sixth for Germany, while Joska le Conte had the third fastest run in Run 2 to take seventh.

Annie O’Shea led the way for the Americans in ninth, while Savannah Graybill had a tough time with kreisel, finishing 17th.

With Elisabeth Vathje out of competition this weekend (injury), it was up to Channell and Lanette Prediger to carry the flag for Canada. Prediger finished tenth, while Channell continues to impress in her time in Germany with a good first run. The second run had one bad hit out of kreisel, and it moved the young Canadian from xith back to 13th.

Other than Yarnold’s very solid day, it was a bit of a bumpy day for the Brits. Rose McGrandle finished 18th after a tough hit exiting Kreisel early in Run 1. Her second run was substantially faster, moving her up from 19th to 14th.  Teammate Laura Deas fared better, with two consistent runs to put her in 11th.
