From Königssee, GER
Semen Pavlichenko continued what’s been a stellar year in the FIL World Cup, winning in Königssee well ahead of anyone else in the field.
The Russian was the quickest in both runs to win not only the World Cup event, but the European Championship as well. Ralf Palik of Germany was a distant second place, over two tenths behind. Austrian Wolfgang Kindl finished third, almost five tenths off the pace.
Felix Loch struggled in his first run, coming down ninth, but rallied back with the second fastest run in the second heat to finish fourth. Russian Roman Repilov finished fifth, with Dominik Fischnaller finishing sixth.
It was an up and down day for the United States, with no athlete seemingly being able to put down two solid runs. Tucker West led the way in ninth after coming into the second heat in 15th. His second run was sixth fastest.
On the other side of the American coin was Chris Mazdzer. Mazdzer came into the second heat in ninth place, but hit the wall in the “bendaway” straight, and the skid that followed led to the slowest run in the session, and an overall ranking of 29th. Teammates Taylor Morris and Jonathan Gustafson finished 20th and 25th respectively.
Canadians Mitchel Malyk and Samuel Edney finished 13th and 14th.
